The Bandung Open 2013 was held last Sunday. It was a grand opening race of the new Bandung Indah Golf onroad circuit located in Bandung, the capital city of West Java state. The race showed a very strong attending of 50 competitors from all around Indonesia such as Jakarta, Bandung, Malang, Yogyakarta and Banjarmasin. The track is a rebuild tennis court with asphalt surface. Completed with a grandstand and lot of lights around the track to allow for night racing. The average laptime in 1/10 EP Super stock class is around 22-23 seconds with the basic layout which is a bit similar to RC City Thailand track with the 2011 TITC layout. It is a fast flowing track with medium-low traction level. A very Hot and sunny condition welcomed all the racers that day.
I got to Bandung on sunday morning after a 2 hour road trip from my hometown Jakarta, with almost no knowledge about the track conditions and its layout. Heri, who has landed a day earlier for a practice day helped me with the basic set-up.
The car felt a bit loose when I hit the track for the very first time. I started with a 1000cst diff oil so I decided to go with 2000cst. The car responded much better and I decided to run this setup for the first qualifying. I was in a good pace until my rear belt broke. In the second qualifying run I made the best time and got TQ.
The superstock final leg 1 was ran in clearly hot sunny weather, me and Heri pulled away from the others and spectators saw a nice battle between us till the end of this leg. We both pushed hard and at the end I crossed the finish line 3 seconds in front of Heri.
Unfortunately, the rain came heavily and the organizers had no other choice than to stop the race. The overall results were taken from the first final race.
